What is published
The public projection currently holds 6,534 brand records and 2,557 source-labelled owner edges across 140 countries, generated on 2026-08-15. You can browse the whole index A–Z or search from any page.
4,238 of those records carry no owner claim at all. They are published anyway, stating plainly that no supportable owner is held. A missing owner is not evidence that a brand is independent, and it is never filled in with a guess drawn from a similar company name, a domain registration or a retailer listing.
Where the data comes from
Sources are separated by what they can actually prove. The full table, with the publication status of each layer, is on the data sources page.
- Wikidata brand graph — names, aliases, countries, websites and source-stated owner relationships, contributed by Wikidata editors and released under CC0 1.0. This is the identity spine of the site.
- Official company and brand pages — current statements published by the organisation responsible for a brand or group structure. Facts are cited and linked; the page content itself is not redistributed.
- UK Contracts Finder award notices — buyers, suppliers and disclosed notice values, published by the UK government under the Open Government Licence v3.0. These drive the public money question.
- GLEIF legal-entity data — Legal Entity Identifiers and the exact company-number links between them, published by the Global Legal Entity Identifier Foundation under CC0 1.0.
- Companies House — UK company identity and dated filings, published under the Open Government Licence v3.0. Used here for corroboration only, with fields reviewed before publication.

How an answer is graded
Ownership is not one relationship. A source may establish a brand owner, a trademark holder, a franchisor, an operating subsidiary, a consolidated parent or an ultimate parent — and the page label follows whichever the source actually supports. Each edge is then graded official source, corroborated, source claim or candidate. The methodology page sets out the rules in full.
What this site does not do
- It does not publish beneficial-ownership findings, and does not name individuals as owners.
- It does not rate brands or companies for ethics, sustainability or investment merit.
- It does not treat product catalogues, merchant listings or affiliate feeds as evidence of control. Those signals can suggest an alias; they never raise a confidence score.
- It does not present a company’s absence from a recall or award record as a safety or integrity assurance.

Corrections
Ownership changes, and snapshots go stale. If an edge is wrong or out of date, send the source that shows it to corrections@whoownsthisbrand.com. A sourced correction supersedes an existing edge; the evidence that supported the old one is not deleted.
