METHODOLOGY

A graph of claims,
not a black box.

The question sounds simple. The responsible answer separates a consumer brand, a trademark holder, an operating company, a parent group and an ultimate controller—and shows which one the source actually names.

01

Resolve the brand identity

We start with stable IDs, official domains and source-native aliases. Exact identifiers outrank text. Name-only similarity can create a review candidate, but it cannot create an ownership fact.

  • Prefer a Wikidata ID, legal-entity ID or register number.
  • Keep consumer-facing names separate from legal names.
  • Reject ambiguous short names until another identifier agrees.
02

Attach the relationship the source supports

“Owned by” is not a universal edge. A source may establish a brand owner, trademark holder, franchisor, operating subsidiary, consolidated parent or ultimate parent. The page label follows that evidence instead of flattening the structure.

03

Give every edge a confidence label

Official source

A current primary source states the relationship directly.

Corroborated

Two or more independent or primary sources agree.

Source claim

A publishable structured source reports the edge; further confirmation is valuable.

Candidate

A discovery signal exists, but the public site does not present it as ownership.

04

Keep private catalogues outside the score

Private product catalogues and affiliate feeds help reveal misspellings, aliases and categories in which a brand appears. That is useful discovery work. It is not proof of who controls the brand, so it is neither published as an ownership source nor included in confidence.

Raw feed rows, object keys, tracking links and restricted content stay in their source account.

05

Date the answer and accept corrections

Corporate structures change. Each source carries a retrieval or effective date. A sourced correction can supersede an old edge without deleting the historical evidence that explained it.
